چکیده

A 1D MR sequence has been developed for determining aortic flow wave velocity (WV), a metric of arterial compliance, within a single cardiac cycle. Studies were carried out on the thoracic aortas of 10 normal volunteers. Correlative WV data were also acquired from each subject using a conventional phase-velocity 2D mapping technique. Aortic WV in this cohort was found to range from 411 to 714 cm/s and was highly correlated (R = 0.95) between the two methods. Peak blood velocity was also measured using both methods and found to agree closely. The reproducibility of WV measurements using the rapid 1D method averaged 7.6%, which is comparable or better than that achieved using existing noninvasive techniques. Rapid aortic wave velocity measurement with MR imaging.

The utility of a one-dimensional magnetic resonance (MR) sequence to rapidly and accurately measure wave velocity in vivo was evaluated. Studies were conducted in the thoracic aortas of 20 healthy subjects of varying age, and the MR method was validated in a compliant tube model. Aortic wave velocity ranged from 3.8 to 9.7 m/sec and demonstrated a positive correlation with subjects' age. Peak b...

An Optical Measurement System to Measure Velocity and Provide Shock Wave Pressure Diagrams

This paper introduces an optical measurement system for shock wave characteristics. The system works by mountinga metal plate attached to spring mounts against the shock wavefront. This set is sealed and can plot the shock wave pressure diagram by measuring plate's displacement, radiation and changing the reflection of light during shock wave conflict, and converting these optical data to volta...

Noninvasive evaluation of aortic regurgitation by continuous-wave Doppler echocardiography.

Continuous-wave Doppler echocardiography was used to examine the aortic regurgitant flow velocity pattern in 32 patients with aortic regurgitation (AR) and 10 patients without AR. The aortic regurgitant flow velocity patterns, characterized by a rapid rise in flow velocity immediately after closure of the aortic valve, high peak flow velocity, and a gradual deceleration until the next aortic va...

Arterial stiffness is considered an increasingly important biomarker in the evaluation of cardiovascular risk. The gold standard for assessment of arterial stiffness is measurement of aortic pulse wave velocity (PWV). The aim of the present study is to establish a new method for measurement of aortic PWV by using Photoelectric technique coupled with ECG. We studied 36 healthy male subjects betw...

Simulated Pulse Wave Imaging for Local Stiffness Estimation in Patient–specific Aortas with Phantom Validation

Background: The aortic stiffness has widely been reported as an independent indicator of all–cause mortality and cardiovascular diseases. Traditional methods for measuring arterial stiffness in vivo involve either invasive procedures or provide a global average estimate. An attractive alternative for noninvasive estimation of local arterial stiffness is based on pulse wave imaging (PWI), a meth...
